My Spring Break Essentials from Gordmans

Hi friends and happy Wednesday!  We are having the most gorgeous day today – like almost 70 degrees and pure sunshine – and it makes my heart so happy.  The birds were chirping right when I woke up and I didn’t have to wear a jacket to my morning kickboxing class.  When I sat down for some desk work, I put on my Summertime country playlist and Frankie Ballard’s “Sunshine & Whiskey” came on and it was literally the perfect song to write this post, because today I’m chatting about my Spring Break Essentials list!  Oh how I miss Spring Break vacation haha.  Whether you’re traveling somewhere warm, or you’re staying put but still want to dress for the occasion, these items are not only Spring Break must-haves, but will carry you right on into Summer!

SPRING BREAK ESSENTIALS

FLORAL MAXI DRESS – God bless the person that invented the maxi dress!  Seriously, I would like to buy them a drink with a little umbrella in it haha.  When packing for a warm weather vacation, I always bring multiple maxi dresses!  In fact, they are one of my favorite things to travel in, too.  This maxi dress is made of a cotton/spandex blend which is very stretchy and soft, as well as flattering!   One of the reasons I love traveling in a maxi dress is because I want my vacation to start the moment my plane lands.  During my flight, I always layer a jean jacket or chambray shirt over my dress and knot up the front so I can wear sandals and not trip on my dress.  A tip to keeping your feet warm during the flight, pack fuzzy socks in your purse!  I hate having to change from closed-toe shoes or sneakers into my sandals when we land, so this is a great way to keep my feet warm until I get those toes in some sand!  Then when you land, tie your jacket around your waist and you are instantly vacay ready!

Maxi dresses can be easily dressed up or down and also double as coverups!  You know those days where time gets away from you while you’re enjoying the sand & sun and you don’t have much time to freshen up before dinner?  No problem!  Keep your maxi dress on, throw your hair up in a big bun, put on some fun earrings, and swipe on some lip gloss, and you are good to go!  Whether you opt for espadrille wedges or prefer sandals, maxi dresses instantly elevate your look with minimal effort!  Be sure to pop into your local Gordmans store to shop their fabulous selection of maxi dresses!

LIGHT WEIGHT STATEMENT EARRINGS – Every good Spring Breaker needs a fabulous pair of statement earrings!  I’m a huge fan of fun earrings because they can turn an outfit from a zero to a hero in .2 seconds.  One of my favorite Spring and Summer combos is to pair jean shorts with a plain white tee.  I literally wear them almost every day and the easiest way for me to dress it up for happy hour with the girls or an evening patio date night with Tone is to add a pair of statement earrings!  This pair goes perfectly with the floral hues in my dress and I love that they’re light weight.  There’s nothing worse than having to tuck your earrings into your purse because your lobes feel like they’re going to fall off!

OFF THE SHOULDER BIKINI – Who else is excited that the off-the-shoulder trend has found it’s way into the swimwear world?!  I sure am.  I find OTS tops and swimsuits to be uber flattering for all body types!  This darling striped two-piece was calling my name when I was browsing the large selection of swimsuits at Gordmans last week!  I typically mix ‘n match my suits, so I plan to wear black or pink bottoms with the top and a green or yellow top with the bottoms.  I find that I can get way more wear and use out of my suits if I wear them with other coordinating pieces!

CUTE + FUNCTIONAL BEACH BAG – This is a two-in-one bag and it has a cooler on the bottom!  If that’s not just plain genius, then I don’t know what is.  Staying hydrated while at the beach and playing in the sun is so important!  I’m already headache-prone, but when I spend time in the sun, they tend to come on stronger.  Wearing sunglasses and drinking lots of water allows me to enjoy my beach days to the fullest and avoid those pesky migraines so I don’t have to go inside and lay down.  The upper mesh part is great for your towel, coverup, light snacks, and sunscreen!  I love that the two compartments are separated because one of my least favorite things about the beach is when sand gets stuck on the condensation of my water bottle.  I love the sand but hate when it gets in every nook and cranny.  Anyone else?!?

BEACH COVERUP THAT DOUBLES AS A COMFY PULLOVER – How fun is this seashell pullover?!  It not only is lightweight, making it ideal to use as a beach coverup (we want to protect those sun-kissed shoulders!), but you can easily pair it with cutoff shorts for a casual dinner or exploring your vacation spot!  When Tony and I go on vacation, we like to have both casual and dressy dinners.  If we’ve had a few cervezas and are feeling a bit tired from spending all day in the sun, then we opt for a casual evening.  That means my broken-in, very comfy jean shorts and a cozy pullover!  I wish I would have had this seashell top with me for our honeymoon because it was actually pretty chilly in the evenings right on the water!

WIDE BRIM FLOPPY HAT – When I was younger, I definitely didn’t pay much attention to skin care, sunscreen, or protecting my face for at least one part of the day.  Now that I’m a wee bit older, and have a few more wrinkles than I did when I was in college, I’m a full believer of cute beach hats!  The wider the brim, the more protection you’ll have on your face, neck, & chest.  And just like a statement earrings, a big floppy hat makes for the cutest accessory!  Not to mention they’re great at hiding salty, dry shampoo – filled manes.  I don’t know about you, but I would rather spend time in the ocean than washing my hair, so I also use my hats to extend the time between washes!

DURABLE WATER BOTTLE – I’m a huge proponent of drinking lots of water, as well as reducing the amount of plastic I need to recycle, so I never leave home without my reusable water bottle!  I tend to get a bit dehydrated while traveling, so to help me remember to keep my water intake on the up, I like to treat myself to a new water bottle from time to time!  I’m a sucker for anything with a sweet little message on it, so naturally this one came home with me.  Gordmans has a huge selection of plastic and stainless steel water bottles, as well as the most darling coffee mugs!

Be sure to visit your local Gordmans store to check out their Spring Break selection!  Gordmans receives new inventory each week, making for a fun surprise every time you shop!
