Hi friends and happy Saturday! This post is long overdue and I’m so excited to finally share my thoughts and results from my Microblading experience! First off, I am SO HAPPY with how they look! And to not have to draw them on every morning has been a serious game changer. I’ve never had super full or thick brows, but they got even thinner and more sparse after a car accident I was in during the summer before my Senior year of high school where I went face first into the windshield and my eyebrows were burned off. Thankfully they did grow back, but they have never been the same since! They were very thin and one is lower than the other as a result of my face injury.
I had been contemplating getting this procedure done for a couple years now and am kicking myself for waiting so long! Keep reading to hear more about the process and why I trusted Sarah with my baby brows!
FREE CONSULTATION
If you’re on the fence about whether or not to get your brows done, you should definitely make your appointment for a free consultation! Before I 100% committed, I met with Sarah at Prim Beauty Parlour to discuss everything I needed to know about Microblading and her process, technique, and what would be required of me. This was my first time visiting Prim, which is a new salon in West Omaha, and holy moly, the place is absolutely gorgeous! It’s a beautiful two-story building in historic downtown Elkhorn, where they offer a range of services – from hair care to massages, and spa & skin treatments – and they carry/use Green Beauty Products, such as Eminence!
After Sarah gave me the grand tour, we sat down in her suite to get to know each other and chat about what I was looking for and what she envisioned for my brows! Right away I could feel her passion for helping women look and feel their best and knew I was in great hands. Her training and expertise speaks for itself (she was trained by PhiAcademy), but more importantly, I truly felt she cared more about my eyebrows than I did haha! I mean, the girl will not rest until her clients are fully satisfied and taken care of!
I shared what I was dreaming of for my brows and she felt confident that we could achieve a thicker, yet natural brow that framed my face without taking over! Then she gave me the run-down of things that I would need to know in preparation for my procedure date!
Important things you should know BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT…
You must refrain from all alcohol, coffee, energy drinks, aspirin, or aspirin products 24 hours prior to your appointment!
ALL of these can make you bleed excessively and excessive bleeding during the procedure will negatively affect the longevity of your semi-permanent makeup application. In some cases, the application will need to be prematurely stopped.
– No alcohol 24 hours prior to your appointment.
– No energy drinks & coffee for up to 24 hours prior to your appointment. Not having caffeine in your system will help you to relax much more easily, as well as help to relax the facial muscles in the areas we will be working on.
– No Ibuprofen and Aleve for 24 hours prior to your appointment. The only product for aches and pain that will not make you bleed is Tylenol.
– Also no Vitamin E and fish oil capsules for 7 days prior to your application.
THE PROCEDURE
First things first, you must draw the shape! This was the longest part of the process because it’s the most important! Sarah is incredibly diligent about ensuring the shape is perfect for your face, and after a few rounds of tweaks/adjustments, we were both super pleased with our outline! Seriously, she booked out her entire day so we wouldn’t be rushed and could really take our time during the drawing stage. I’m not exaggerating when I say she cares just as much, if not more, about her clients’ brows!
Many places in Omaha (and I’m assuming across the country) use a shading method, where they fill the brow in rather than creating teeny tiny hair-like slits. That is one of the biggest reasons I chose Sarah for my Microblading experience because she does not shade! I would highly encourage you to find someone who uses the PhiBrows technique rather than the method of filling in/shading. There is SO much science that goes into creating that natural-looking brow! And there’s no way I could eloquently explain it all haha so please read HERE!
Another huge part of the PhiBrow technique that differentiates them from others is that they don’t numb the skin right away. Now don’t be frightened! First, Sarah worked on each brow to create the shape and make the tiny slits before numbing my skin. The reason behind this is that the numbing cream can make the skin more rubber-like, therefor making it harder to create those very fine, hair-like lines! She took about ten to fifteen minutes per brow during this first stage and that is when I felt the most discomfort. I wouldn’t say it “painful’, but rather uncomfortable. But this part is very brief! After the first pass on each brow, she numbs you up really good haha and then goes back to each brow to fill and darken the slits!
After she is completed with each brow, she puts a tint mask on which also feels really good! This helps the tint/ink set into your skin. After 30 minutes, she wipes it off and you are good to go!
Important things you should know AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT…
DAY 1: Wash hands with antibacterial soap before you wash your eyebrows. Then wash your eyebrows EVERY HOUR with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water! Pat dry with a tissue than apply a very thin layer of the Skin Candy. The Skin Candy is a cream that Sarah provides you to help aid in the healing process and to avoid scabbing & itching!
Helpful Tip – I set my stopwatch on my iPhone to go off every hour to help remind me to wash my brows throughout the first 24 hours!
DAY 2-7: Keep eyebrows lightly glossed with the Skin Candy for three to four times a day for the next 7 days. Do not over use ointment. It should last you for 7 days, only apply very thin layer. Do not suffocate your eyebrows.
Other things to note…
- Do not use any Retin-A, Glycolic Acids, Peroxide, Neosporin while healing
- Do not scrub or pick your eyebrows.
- Do not expose area to sun or tanning beds! Must use hat if in the sun.
- Avoid any facials , swimming, whirlpools or sauna for 7 days.
- Do not exercise the first 3-5 days. No heavy sweating!
- No make-up on the eyebrows!
- Do not tint eyebrows for the next 10 days.
What to expect after your Microblading Procedure…
– Slight swelling, thickness, and/or redness for one or two days following the procedure.
– It is normal to lose approximately 1/3 of the color during the healing process.
– After the initial procedure, the color may be a shade too dark; in six days it will appear to light after 10 days the color will show more.
– It will appear softer when completely healed because the color will come from dermal layer of the skin to the epidermal layer of the skin.
– Be patient. Healing takes up to 30 days. In your next appointment more hairs can be added and make them perfect!
The brows are approximately 20 to 25% darker and bolder in the width than they will be when healed! Your skin is red under the pigment which causes the color of the pigment to appear darker. There is some swelling, but it’s hard to actually see due to the thickness of the skin in the eyebrow area.
Once the natural skin process of Exfoliation begins a few days after the procedure, the excess pigment surrounding the eyebrow procedure will start to flake away and a narrower look of your eyebrows will appear. Don’t be concerned that your eyebrows initially appear darker and heavier in size then you desire! This is all part of the process!
I go back next week for my follow-up appointment and I can’t wait to share the final final results with you girls, so stay tuned for more and be sure to check out my Instagram “Microblading” Highlight for behind-the-scenes and lots of info/videos!
