Holiday Cozy – Chunky Sweater + Pops of Red

Hi friends! Today I am getting in the holiday spirit with pops of red, a quintessential classic plaid scarf, and a chunky knit with the help of SheInside!  The color red has never been a color I would wear unless it was a Husker Football Saturday or Maverick Hockey Spirit Day, and because I tend to associate the color red with my two alma maters – UNL and UNO, I just don’t think I should wear it unless I’m at a sporting event.  But, red is the color of the holidays and truly signifies that Christmas is upon us.  And I love that!

So I took a large step out of my comfort zone and went with this designer-inspired red bag (under $21!) and black, tan, and red plaid scarf (under $16)!  I paired these two pieces with a cream chunky knit sweater (under $28!) that is so me!  I just feel good in creamy white hues.  And I love the classic and chic feel that cream and white sweaters represent.  You know what else I feel awesome in??? High-waisted jeans!  If you have ever heard me say anything about fashion and style, I bet you heard me preach about the beauty and joy of high-waisted pants!  Honestly, they are God’s gift to women.  And women who like to eat!  That high waist keeps everything tucked in and packed away.  These black jeans do just that (under $20!)!  I’m wearing a size Large for reference!

When trying new looks/colors/styles, start with a staple wardrobe piece as your base (cream sweater & high-waisted denim) and then you can pile on any new item that you aren’t sure about (red bag)!  This outfit is perfect for a casual, easy-going family Christmas gathering and this sweater will definitely hide your food baby!

What are some colors that you girls find to be “off-limits” or shades that are out of your comfort zone?! Let’s go outside the box together!
