Hi gals and happy Wednesday! How is your week treating you so far? Monday was super warm & sunny, and since I didn’t have any work meetings or conference calls, plus my computer was on the fritz, T & and I decided to take advantage of the nice day and have a day-date at the zoo! I’ve loved going to the zoo ever since I was a little kid and have the fondest memories of zoo trips with my parents and little sister. And now, Tony and I are continuing that family tradition with our trusty zoo pass. A zoo pass basically pays for itself after 2x and it’s great because we can bring guests and tag along with our friends and their kids. We also can’t wait to have family zoo days with our own kiddos someday! My love for the zoo is a real thing. In fact, for the longest time I wanted to have our wedding reception in the zoo’s aquarium! I also wanted to be a marine biologist when I was little, so there’s that.
If you’re not from Omaha or aren’t familiar with our zoo, then let me fill you in and brag a little, because Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo was just named the world’s best zoo by TripAdvisor! How cool is that? And while we’re on the subject, here are some quick fun facts about the “Big O”… The Omaha-Metro area has close to 1 Million people, every Spring and Fall we host Omaha Fashion Week, which is ranked top 5 in the country, we’re home to five, Fortune 500 companies, and our local food and craft beer scene is bomb.com! Since Tony and I don’t have kids yet, we do our best to make time for dates and to explore our amazing city! We may be “Omaha, somewhere in middle America” – Counting Crows, but we have big ideas and big things happening in Omaha!
Omaha is so much more than “dirt roads and tractors” haha. I swear, every time I meet someone who’s not familiar with Omaha, I’m asked if we have paved streets and does my dad drive a tractor. Like really?!? But no, he drives a bad ass motorcycle and my mom drives a Cadillac! Even though agriculture and farming is a large economic component of our state, Omaha is SO much more. I also get odd looks when I tell people that I’m a full-time fashion and style blogger. I mean, how on earth could a fashion blogger live in Nebraska?!? To be honest, the Influencer market is not nearly as saturated as other cities, so I feel incredibly thankful & blessed that I’m able to help create the path for the blogging community in Omaha! I shared here just how my Nebraska roots have shaped my view on fashion. It has also influenced how I shop and the value I seek while doing so, as well as how I express my personal style. Which is why I preach investment vs. trendy, versatility, and getting that bang for your buck!
And speaking of versatility and bang for your buck, let’s chat about this beautiful blue floral tunic! I’m a sucker for longer tops, because sometimes I live in leggings (during that time of the month!), which means I need to have an arsenal of tops that are long enough to wear with leggings and that cover the bootay! The sleeves have the sweetest tiered ruffle detail, which is super on-trend right now and gives this feminine top just the right amount of sassiness. And the ruffle peplum hem is the icing on the cake! Also, this navy and baby pink color combo is soft and subtle, which is great if you’re trying floral print for the first time. I understand that loud and busy prints aren’t for everyone, so this top is a great starting point!
You girls know that I have a severe weakness for anything floral. Like, it’s an issue. I know! But, if loving florals is wrong, then I don’t wanna be right! Some say (well I say) that leopard print is a neutral, but I also declare floral print as a neutral, too! What once used to be solely a warm weather print has recently turned into an all year long staple. Yep, florals are here to stay! Last Fall, florals went straight from Summer into Fall with the ever-so-popular embroidery trend, and Winter florals were huge with pretty pastel hues, as well as boho, 70’s vibes. This navy number will transition perfectly into the Fall months, because you just have to switch the shorts & wedges out for denim & booties once the weather cools down. Again, it’s all about a low cost per wear and this tunic does just that! Plus it looks so cute with my light blue rosette necklace, so it’s a total win.
